The Creation
According to Greek Mythology, in the beginning there was nothing but Chaos apart from a bird with black wings whose name was Nyx and Erebus her brother. Erebus and Nyx were the son and daughter of Chaos. Nyx was the Goddess of the night.
Erebus and Nyx mated and gave birth to Aether and Hemera. Aether and Hemera were two of the Protogenoi, or first-born elemental gods. Aether was the God of the Upper Sky, Space and Heaven also known as the God of Light and Hemera was the Goddess of the Day. Nyx then gave birth by herself to Momus (blame), Ponus (toil), Moros (fate) Thanatos (death), Hypnos (sleep), Charon (the tribe of dreams), the Hesperides, the Keres and Fates, Nesis, Apate (deception), Philotes (friendship), Geras (age) and Eris (strife).
After Aether and Hemera came Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth who by herself gave birth to Uranus. Uranus was the God of the Sky and first ruler. He then became the husband of Gaia and between them they gave birth to many children including the twelve Titans, Cyclopes and the three Hecatoncheires. Uranus hated the children that they had. Uranus was a cruel God and imprisoned the youngest children in Tartarus, a place in the underworld, where they caused pain to Gaia. She asked her sons to castrate Uranus but only her youngest son, Cronus, was willing to do this.
Cronus suceeded Uranus as the next ruler and so began the rule of the Titans.
