Greek Gods and Goddesses

Primordial Deities

In Greek Mythology the Primordial Deities were the first beings which came into existance and are related to the Greek myth of the Creation. These Primordial Deities consisted of Chaos, Aether, Gaia, Uranus, Hemera, Chronos, Eros, Erebus, Nyx, Ophion and Tartarus.

The Titans

The Titans were the twelve sons and daughters of Heaven (Uranus) and Earth (Gaia). The Titans consisted of Oceanus, Tethys, Hyperion, Theia, Coeus, Phoebe, Cronus, Rhea, Mnemosyne, Themis, Crius and Lapetus.

The Olympians

The twelve Olympians were the principal gods of Greek Mythology. The Olympians resided on top of Mount Olympus. The Olympians consisted of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hermes, Hestia, Demeter, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares and Hephaestus.

The Hundred Handed Ones

The Hundred Handed Ones (`Ekatonceir) were the three Giant Gods of Storms. Each god had one hundred hands and fifty heads. The Hundred Handed Ones consisted of Briareus (Aegaeon), Gyes and Cottusgeit.

Cyclopes

The Cyclopes were the children of Uranus and Gaia. The Cyclopes were giants with one eye in the central forehead. The Cyclopes were minor power gods of the second generation. The Cyclopes consisted of Arge, Brontes, Steropes and Polyphemus.

River Gods

According to Greek Mythology, the River Gods were the children of the Titans, Oceanus and Tethys. The River Gods consisted of Achelous, Acheron, Acis, Alpheus, Cladeus, Eurotas, Peneus and Styx.

Nymphs

Nymphs were not technically gods, but spirits linked with places. The nymphs consisted of Adrasteia, Clytie, Crataeis, Daphne, Dryads, Hamadryads, Metope, Naiads, Cleochareia, Nereids, Amphitrite, Arethusa, Oceanids, Eidyia, Oreads and Echo.

Giants

The Giants were creatures with a thousand hands and serpent feet. Some myths say that the Giants were created from the blood which fell on the earth after the castration of Uranus while others say that Gaia gave birth to them in order to take revenge against the Olympians for defeating the Titans. The Giants consisted of Agrius, Alcyoneus, Aloadae, Otus, Orion, Ephialtes, Antaeus, Argus, Enceladus and Tityos

Dioscuri

Discuri consist of the twins Castor and Polydeuces. They were the sons of Leda and Zeus.

Gorgons

The Gorgons were three powerful, winged monsters. They consisted of Stheno, Euryale and Medusa.

Horae

According to Greek Mythology, the Horae were three goddesses which represented the seasons spring, summer and autumn. There were two generations which combined made six goddesses altogether. These goddesses were Thallo, Auxo, Karpo, Eunomia, Dike and Eirene.

Moirae

The Moirae were often known as the fates and controlled the destiny of all mortals from the day they were born to the day that they died. The Moirae consisted of Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos

Muses

The muses were the daughters of Mnemosyne and Zeus and were the goddesses of the arts and sciences. The Muses consisted of Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia and Urania.
